Wenu

Description

During the reign of Hatshepsut the town of Wenu is mentioned only once in the long inscription preserved on the architrave of the rock shrine of Speos Artemidos. Hatshepsut says there: “The cities of Herwer and Wenu were p[oor] in provisions. 23I have consecrated their temples, establishing them as places to which one comes and goes.”[1]

The location of Wenu remains unknown, but it is likely that it was situated at a fairly close distance from Speos Artemidos, since other cities and temples mentioned in that inscription are located in the vicinity.
